Storebø Sauna sits by Storebø Brygge on Austevoll, in front of several new apartment blocks in an area that has seen heavy construction in recent years. It is land-based, wood-fired and sized for 12 people, and opened in January 2025. The building has two external doors, one from the landward side and one straight out to the sea. That makes the switch between sauna and swim practical, and at the same time shields bathers from the blocks looking down on the site. The sauna gets a quiet zone in the middle of the urban context. Design work ran in close cooperation with the client, Austevoll Idrettsklubb, and with the landowner, who thought about area development and coming construction phases as a whole. The result serves both the club's need for an everyday low-threshold facility and the landowner's interest in giving the area lasting social value as it develops.
