Stanghelle Sauna sits in Agnavika in Vaksdal, takes twelve people and opened in January 2025. It stands on land, and that was a choice we spent time on: the fjord is open here, and waves and spring tides leave a floating sauna exposed. Land-based was also cheaper and easier for everyone to get into, and that was what got the financing in place. Sparebanken Vest financed the whole project under the association model, and Stanghelle Idrettslag owns and runs the sauna. The annex is half the point: changing room, shower and shelter for prams mean the bathing spot can be used in winter and not only in summer. Agnavika is a state-secured outdoor recreation area, so it took time to settle everything between the municipality, the club and Bergen og omland friluftsråd. It is the case we point to most often when other clubs ask how this can be done.
