Stanghelle Sauna
Stanghelle · Stanghelle IL
Stanghelle Sauna is a land-based twelve-person project in Agnavika in Vaksdal, built with Stanghelle Idrettslag and fully financed through Sparebanken Vest under the association model. An annexe holds changing rooms, showers and shelter for prams, so the bathing spot itself is genuinely usable all year. An early decision weighed land-based against floating siting. Wave conditions and spring tides in the open fjord made a floating version risky, and a land-based one also gave better universal access at lower cost. That was decisive in getting the financing to fall into place. The case was resolved through a private agreement between Vaksdal municipality and the sports club, with the Bergen and District Outdoor Council as co-manager of Agnavika. After a long regulatory process through protected outdoor recreation area and the shoreline zone, Stanghelle Sauna opened in January 2025. It stands today as one of our reference projects, professionally and for other local clubs weighing up the association model.
