Salhus Badstove will sit by the Rotholsneset bathing spot on the museum grounds in Salhus in Bergen. Museumssenteret i Hordaland is the client, and the plan is for Salhus Badstulaug to run it. The Directorate for Cultural Heritage protected the whole Salhus Tricotagefabrik plant in 2020, the shoreline bath included, which sets tight limits on what can be built. We are the architect and the responsible applicant. The sauna is drawn sober and subordinate, and can be dismantled and removed without permanent traces. That reversibility is no flourish: dispensations on a protected site are granted for limited periods at a time. The expression is kept clearly new and plain rather than imitating the factory buildings around it. We presented the sketch project at a public meeting in March 2026, and Vestland county council granted dispensation under the Cultural Heritage Act in September 2026. The building application is the next step.
