Marineholmen

Marineholmen sits on Puddefjorden in Bergen, where GC Rieber Eiendom is building a new bathing facility with bathing and sauna piers along the harbour promenade. The saunas stand on a floating island, and we design them for Bergen Laugarlag. The commission began with two saunas and grew to four, each different inside: layout, benches and stove set them apart, from a classic Finnish sauna to a Norwegian one with step-free access and a large banya with tiered benches on three levels. From outside they share the same body, cladding and roof, so they read as one facility from the promenade. The roof falls towards the middle, and the buildings are sunk into the deck so the floor inside sits flush with the pier. They are under construction and are planned to open in spring 2027.
