In the summer of 2025 we were commissioned to develop a sauna at Sukkerbiten with a facade in Norwegian pine. The design rests on a sober language: a pitched roof, timber cladding that will grey evenly with weather and wind, and a plan with several seating levels for higher capacity. The changing area is enlarged for better flow in daily operation, and the bench system is dimensioned for even heat distribution and good circulation. Materials and details were chosen for solid, serviceable surfaces, while the room itself stays sheltered and calm. One important part of the design is a concealed door for the sauna masters. It is integrated into the cladding so that it reads as one with the facade, and is built as an insulated sandwich door with Soss hinges and a gasket-sealed frame. Wood can be loaded from outside without guests using the opening, which reduces heat loss and makes cleaning more efficient. For the heat source we had Narvi supply a special version of the Narvi 30 with reinforced components for harder wear.
