Eikelandsfjorden Sauna

Eikelandsfjorden Sauna was built together with Eikelandsfjorden Idrettslag and is finished. We began with workshops in the village: what kind of sauna would people here actually use, and who would be left out? The answer shaped both the sauna and the way it is run. It is self-service, so you can come when you like without arranging anything with anyone, and much of the work was done by volunteers with support from local businesses. The club runs its own programme of talks, bathing and social gatherings, so the sauna is used for more than bathing. The starting point was loneliness as much as health: a sauna is a place people meet without having agreed to it beforehand.
