Eikelandsfjorden Sauna grew out of a commitment to revitalising rural districts through meaningful meeting places. Together with Eikelandsfjorden Idrettslag we identified a need for a low-threshold facility that could counter loneliness and encourage activity, and we set out to build a sauna for the whole community, with an eye to the groups that often fall outside. Through workshops and dialogue we formed a shared picture of how the sauna could drive cohesion and better public health. With local support and a great deal of voluntary labour it now stands finished, shaped to what Eikelandsfjorden needed. Self-service access lowers the threshold for use, and the club runs a programme of talks, bathing and social gatherings.
